FuseSocial recently initiated a social research project – Profiling Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo’s Non Profit Sector – designed to identify active non-profit organizations in the Wood Buffalo region, the types of services being provided and the community needs they address. Not only will the data collected support our mission to help strengthen the social profit sector, but the benefits of this project will be far reaching – providing the entire community an accurate picture of the social profit sector, and the local perspective of current challenges and needs of organizations.
FuseSocial has concluded the data collection portion of this research.
Over the past few months, we have completed an initial review and update of the existing master list of 300 plus non profits: including removal of dissolved organizations, updated contact information and categorization according to the services provided and the community needs each organization addresses. We have also developed comprehensive research tools that will best support the collection of this valuable data and provide opportunity for sector collaboration.
FuseSocial will be engaging all of our region’s registered non–profits in a brief survey to gather valuable knowledge, experience and new ideas from the sector. With an updated estimated count of 260 plus non-profits operating in the region, we will be completing data collection in three phases.
Pending a completed report, this project will be shared openly with social profit agencies, as well as other interested stakeholders. The knowledge gleaned will be pivotal to supporting our sector and strengthening their capacity through education, development, innovation and collaboration.
