Please welcome the “Love Where You Live” community action project team: Ahmed Jouda, Eugene Carnegie, Heidi Gould, Kaitlyn Campbell and Laura Jaramillo. This Leadership Wood Buffalo cohort team chose to focus on the internal perception of Fort McMurray and those who may state “there’s nothing to do here!” The “Love Where You Live” team collaborated with The MAC Calendar and are pleased to present their learnings to the community.
Please welcome the “Community Connectors” community action project team: Colleen Stewart, Doyin Osuntogun, Jo Day, Julie Penney and Nicole Martyn-Dickinson. This Leadership Wood Buffalo cohort team chose to focus on isolated seniors in the region, to gain knowledge on age-friendly initiatives and connect seniors to technology training. The Community Connectors team collaborated with St. Aidan’s Society, Canadian Mental Health Association and The Multicultural Association and are pleased to present their learnings to the community.
Please welcome the “Place Brand Advocates” community action project team: Crystal Mercredi, Janelle Ormond, Paulina Clarke and Ryan Graham. This Leadership Wood Buffalo cohort team was brought together by a passion to change the perception of Fort McMurray from those living outside of the region. This team of community champions developed a partnership with the Wood Buffalo Economic Development Corporation and are pleased to present their learnings to the community. We cannot wait to continue this partnership for years to come!
Please welcome the “Youth Empowerment” Community Action Project team: Chris Cadegan, Michelle Lange and Vish Khaira. This Leadership Wood Buffalo cohort team was brought together by a passion for supporting youth in the region through mentorship. This project team partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo to develop a recruitment strategy and process for mentors.
The Leadership Wood Buffalo Cohort has been working together since September 13, 2019. Throughout the 9 months of the program, the cohort has engaged with various community members and participated in learning circles and activities to assist in their personal, and community, leadership development. The final task asked of the cohort was to develop a podcast to discuss either the process of the Leadership Wood Buffalo curriculum or discuss their own development within the program.
